A delegation of the FISU was present in Naples at the end of April to evaluate the aspects of the candidate city to the Summer Universiade 2019. During the visit, the members of the FISU contacted not only representatives of the Italian university sports committee, but also with the regional government, very involved in the Neapolitan candidacy.
After the official confirmation of the candidacy of Naples (Italy) for the 2019 Summer Universiade and after a series of working sessions between the candidate city and the FISU, the Evaluation Committee of the latter body, formed by the first vice-president Leonz Eder, the director of the Summer Universiade Marc Vandenplas, the president of the International Technical Committee and the Sub-Committee of the Summer Universiade Jean-Paul Clémençon and the director of the Summer Universiade Jing Zhao, carried out the evaluation visit to the city between April 26 and 29 to review the capacity of the candidacy.
During the first morning there was an introductory general meeting at the Mostra d’Oltremare, the Naples exhibition center, which is expected to be the main accreditation center as well as the headquarters of several indoor sports. The meeting was chaired by Fulvio Bonavitacola, president of the regional government, with the presence of the president of CUSI Lorenzo Lentini and Raimondo Pasquino, the visible head of the candidacy committee of the Summer Universiade 2019, as well as experts and people responsible for all the relevant areas, including the CONI.
This is a great opportunity for us, and also a great honor and challenge for our region. The Universiade will be a new opportunity to renew our image, and a perfect medium for our projects for youth and the development of sport to be seen, “said Fulvio Bonavitacola in his speech.
Lorenzo Lentini remarked remarkably the support from the CUSI: “It is our dream to bring the Universiade back on its 60th anniversary to Italy and bring it to Naples. All Italian universities have expressed their commitment and support for the 2019 Universiade, and the Universiade will belong not only to Naples, but to the entire university sports system in Italy. ”
On behalf of the FISU delegation, Leonz Eder expressed his appreciation of the great hospitality and organization of this evaluation trip, and emphasized: “The Universiade is a team effort”.
